Sustainability Office
The Sustainability Office is an internal Organization of the ASU dedicated to strengthening and accelerating sustainability action at Acadia University. Using student support, the SO advocates for green policy change in the University and the ASU. Past campaigns include the Acadia Farm, the USC paper initiative and the Green Police. Kaycee Morrison is coordinating the organization this year, a second year environmental science major.
Environmental Society
The Acadia Environmental Society is an internal organization of the Acadia Student Union that is committed to creating awareness on campus and in the Wolfville community about environmental issues. Through meetings, conferences, hikes, potlucks, and other events, the AES provides an opportunity to engage in dialogue and action related to our environment. In the past, we have been involved in such events as Buy Nothing Day and the Eco-Olympics, as well as projects like Acadia Rideshare and The Freemarket. This year’s coordinator is James Patterson, also a second year Environmental Science major.
Why Two Organizations?
The Sustainability Office and Environmental Society share the same values, but they represent the two channels by which environmental change takes place. The Environmental Society spreads awareness and sparks discussion promoting change from the ground up, whereas the sustainability office lobbies for progress through administrative decisions. Together, the two organizations hope to promote a sustainable model for the University, community, and ultimately the world.
