Potluck Tonight!

I hope you’re all enjoying the snowstorm out there, and with the fifteen centimeters of snow that will likely be on the ground by tonight, you are going to need some hearty food, hearty music and hearty company tonight to keep yourselves in good spirits. Solution: come to the Environmental Society/Sustainability Office potluck tonight and soak it in! and if you bring your sleds/winter adventuring materials there is a small chance this potluck could morph into a giant sledding party. excited yet? I am! Where is it?

Directions to the eco-house: There’s a paved path between the Irving Centre and Patterson (the old bio building). Follow this path from campus and it will spit you out on Westwood Ave. right in front of the eco house. It’s a white house, and it’s number 34. Look for happy people.

And remember, there is no need to bring a dish, but it is encouraged such that we all may enjoy a plethora of delicious food.

Great! see you there!

Relay for Life

April 4, 2009 6:00 pmtoApril 5, 2009 8:00 am

The AES/SO are putting together a Relay for Life team this year with a (surprise) environmental theme. In the meetings we had some support for this, so we’ve signed up the team online, and now it’s YOUR turn to sign up as well. The Relay for Life is alot of fun, and in the past there have been some pretty sweet costume/base camp setups. This year, however, we are going to shatter any previous attempts at costume/base-camp glory with a to-be-planed costume/base camp idea. For details…come to meetings!

To sign up for the Team Environment! team, visit our group page on cancer.ca and click on the ’sign up for this team’ link.

Second Semester Potluck

5:00 pmto7:00 pm

Get your oven mitts out…it’s time once again for the inagural second semester AES/SO potluck. Bring a dish or bring simply your charming company, there will be food for all, as well as some planning to kick off this semester of environmental goodness. Meet at 34 Westwood…the Eco House…at 5pm..sharp!

AES/SO 2009: New Semester, Same World to Save

Another semester is upon us, and I know many of you (like me) have much easier, or at least different schedules. Amy and I done quite a bit of brainstorming over the break to prepare for another four months of environmental action here on campus, and we’d like to know what you think as well. To accomplish this as well as fill our stomachs with delicious (hopefully local) food, we’re throwing another one of our famous AES/SO Potlucks at 34 Westwood (The Eco House!) on Sunday January 11 at 5pm…sharp.

I’m  hoping to make this potluck a bit like an open house. All of you have, at some point or another, expressed interest in becoming active in environmental issues on campus. The Sustainability Office and Environmental Society exist for exactly that reason…to provide an opportunity for students to get involved and informed through environmental action. The aforementioned student could be you! We’ve got lots of great ideas for this semester, and the more people are interested, the more ideas we can turn into a reality. First step: eat food at my house on sunday….couldn’t be any easier.

That said, I just kind of pulled this date out of a hat. If you’re aching to come but can’t because of the date, let me know and we can work something out.

Also, two things you should show up for this week:

1. The Contra Dance! Saturday, January 10 at 8pm in the Horton Community Hall in Grand Pre…if you want to go but don’t have a ride…I for one will be going and have room, so let me know. for more information, see the facebook event, or the Acadia Farm Website. The Smokin’ Contra Dance Band is lined up to play one Smokin’ Contra Dance, so you’d better be there!

2. An Environmental Engineering Candidate is speaking tomorrow (tuesday) at 3pm in Carnegie Hall room 325 about Water Sustainability and safer drinking water.

Have a wonderful first week….I’ll be seeing you all on Sunday.
